Flu Season...

Whenever I hear people talking about the flu vaccine, I immediately think of this video clip:

I first saw it at Dr. Ben Kim's, of whom I am a fan. It is pretty funny, but I think people really need to know what the ingredients are in everything they buy, use, take, inject, and so forth. While I am NOT an expert by any means, I do NOT think the flu vaccine is the way to go. We're not fans of vaccinations in general around here, but specifically the flu vax is no good. This article at Dr. Kim's website has some good information, as does this one and this one from Dr. Mercola.

Basically, the flu vaccine weakens your immune system and makes you more susceptible to getting it. The risks really do outweigh any "benefit" that the vaccine might have. In order to help prevent getting the flu we need to eat healthy organic food (LOTS of vegetables), exercise, drink lots of water, get good rest and sleep, and do our best to minimize stress in our life. We can also further boost our immune systems by taking quality whole-food supplements, whole-food Vitamin C, lots of garlic, and probiotics. Also, washing our hands alot will help, but NOT with an antibacterial soap. That stuff does more harm than good as well. We blend our own using organic castile soap and organic essential oils from Mountain Rose Herbs (of course). Also, make a simple non-toxic all-purpose spray using baking soda, vinegar, castile soap, distilled water and essential oils. It can be used to clean anything and everything!!

However, if you do all of this and still get the flu, treat your body as it deserves and allow plenty of time for it to rest and recuperate because you need it!!! Take care of yourself...and if anyone wants that all-purpose disinfectant recipe, let me know!

Great post, and funny video. We aren't usually ones to get a flu vaccine around here either. Thanks for all the tips for staying well!

Hmmm...vaccines are such a touchy topic. I can always see both sides, but with hubby in the medical field we usually get all vaccines. We've also had to get them with several 'high-risk' munchkins. Anyways, I got the flu shot this year and it was the first time I have ever gotten sick from it. I seriously thought I was going to die! I am definately going to think twice before getting it again next year. Thanks for the reminder to do our research...so true! Funny video, btw!

Even being preggers I got the tummy flu this year... it was too late for me to even think about the flu shot.

So glad to hear you're doing well.

I avoid the flu vaccine as well. My mother is a nurse and does get the vaccine, mostly because she works with people who already have extremely weakened immune systems (cancer patients) who do need some defense against a flu which could indeed kill them. However, I think that in most instances the best defense is to be healthy and clean. If the vaccine were used only by those with weak immune systems, then we wouldn't have the flu resistant super bugs. Plus, I really wish vaccines were vegan!!!

We steer so clear of those flu vaccines. Do you know The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears? It's fabulous, fantastic & so very readable. He's not for or against them, he's clear it's 12 different choices, he gives ingredients, pros, cons, history of each vaccine. I love it. I waited for years for this book. When Mahal was a baby the research was all anti-vaccine or manufacturer-generated. Their wasn't anything we could trust & so we went with weighing the risks & using our intuition. But it was always a weigh on my shoulders. When I read through this book I felt certain we had made the right choices all the way around for our family. He has a video version, as well. It's a great resource for any family wanting to make an informed, unbiased choice. For instance, some vaccines had bits of monkey in them! whoa... And other vaccines need to be gotten by adults, too, if one is really behind the reason for the vaccine. Interesting how many parents think the vaccines are just to keep their own child safe, but don't get them themselves. As you know, we don't really use any chemicals at all. If we traveled to certain countries, I'd have to revisit some of this.
